How Lillie’s Whimsical Garden Wedding Styled Shoot was Designed + Planned

Dec 9, 2022

Lead Planner, Lillie Chupp, designed + planned this gorgeous styled shoot! Keep reading to find out just how she did it.

Vendor Team:

Planning + Design: Lillie, Jackson & June Events

Photography: Maggie Dunn Photography

Florals: Araiza Florals

Hair + Makeup: Lorena Parrish Beauty

Dress: Everlasting Bridal Monroe

Location: William Harris Homestead

Where did you get the inspiration for your styled shoot?

Lillie: I wanted to base my design on a theme that I haven’t seen a lot in weddings. I love a whimsical wedding – the idea of playing with a lot of color. When I put the two together, the first thing that popped in my head is the Mad Hatter tea party in Alice and Wonderland. I’m a very visual person, so it was easy for me to quickly compare a design with something anyone can picture, like Alice and Wonderland. A garden party feel with pastel mix matched China is where I wanted to put my focus. Once I committed to the feel of the style, all other details fell into place.

Let’s talk details— how did you go about sourcing vendors, decor, dresses, etc.?

Lillie: After deciding on my theme, I created a design board. I started with florals to solidify my colors. Since it was a colorful design, I thankfully didn’t have to limit myself. I found hues of colors that complimented each other. Once I was happy with my design board, I focused on a venue, florist and photographer. For a venue, I wanted green spaces. I wanted it to feel like an intimate nook you just happen to end up at if you were hiking or something. That about describes how Sammy found the area we used at the William Harris Homestead.

For the florist and photographer,  I wanted two people that I know could look at a design board and run with their creativity. Maggie and Darian were easy picks. Maggie’s photography is so inviting and energetic, much like her personality. I was so excited when she agreed to photograph the shoot. Darian has a way of making any floral arrangement look effortless and magical. I’m convinced there’s not a style that she couldn’t tackle. She has so much knowledge and creativity in her craft and I couldn’t be happier with the way the florals looked!

For my other vendors/models, I wanted people that would highlight another theme I had for the day, which was community. Lorena is such a kind soul with a great talent for highlighting any bride or model’s natural beauty. My models are some of my dearest friends that agreed to have fun for the day. I got very lucky with attire. I knew not to set my hopes on one dress so I kept my vision broad. I looked for an a-line dress with some sort of tulle overlay. When I found the dress that we used, I gasped. It was exactly the dress I told myself not to get attached to. Over all, I was so happy with the vendors that took time out of their busy schedules to help make this design come to life.

What were some design elements were you most excited about?

Lillie: The tablescape for sure! It was my pride and joy. I wanted it to be busy and elegant at the same time. I couldn’t wait to play with the China we landed on and the napkin fold (haha). One of my favorite pictures from the shoot is where everyone is toasting. It captures the table design and sense of community in such an elegant way.

How did you get started with wedding planning?

Lillie: I studied theatre in college and one of my favorite classes was my Design class. The foundation of the class was analyzing a script and creating a theme based on our interpretations. I knew I wanted to strive towards a career that would let me practice that creativity. After graduating, I starting getting into photography. I wanted to learn as much as I could about weddings and photography helped me grasp the flow of the business. The best photographer mentor, Audrey Herron, let me assist her on weddings! After a few weddings, she mentioned seeing Jackson and June post about wanting to hire an Associate Coordinator. I’m so thankful that Sammy was in a position to hire two people and myself and Kelyn were able to fill those positions.

What kinds of clients/styles resonate most with you?

Lillie: I enjoy learning from our clients. Some couples have brought ideas into our planning calls or little details that are so fun to incorporate in a wedding. I resonate towards clients that are eager to plan. It makes our meetings more like conversations where we are bouncing ideas off each other. As far as styles, I love garden party and boho themes. However, I hope I get the opportunity to play with a variety of styles.
