Holiday Weddings 101

Is your wedding scheduled on or near a holiday? Do you want to tie the holiday into your wedding design but not so much that your guests forget they are at a wedding? If you answered yes to either of those questions, I’ve got ya covered!

Today we are going to talk through 10 ideas that will help you *subtly* tie in holiday festivities without distracting your guests from what’s really important – you and your new hubby/wifey!

And since today is Halloween, I thought it would be a good place to start. Let’s dive in!

All Hallows’ Eve

October is one of the most popular wedding months, so some couples have to schedule their big day on or near Halloween simply due to venue availability. Other couples have dreamt of having a Halloween-themed wedding for years and can’t wait to plan spooky fun for their guests.

So whether you are an all-in Halloween bride or want to celebrate in a more subtle manner, our list of Halloween Wedding Ideas is worth a read!

Our Eerie Halloween Ideas

1. Color Scheme:  The obvious options for an all-out Halloween wedding are definitely black and orange, but if you are wanting to go for a subtler feel, just think about the tones of your wedding colors. If you already have your wedding colors picked out, look at some darker *spookier* colors to add in through details. You could add deep purple dahalias to your bouquet or in your centerpieces. You can order a darker colored piece of tool (or another sheer fabric) to drape over a neutral colored linen for your sweetheart table or gift table. Or simply add a few black decor pieces to your decor plan. I’ve seen some beautiful black vases used in centerpieces! Here are some color pallets I came up with:
   

   Deep Purple, Taupe, Deep Green, and White

   

   Light Lavender, Silver, Eucalyptus, and Black

   

   Gold, Black, Olive, and Deep Green

   

   Silver, Black, Autumn Orange, and Eucalyptus

   

   Deep Wine Red, Silver, Eucalyptus, and Black

2.  Themed Rehearsal Dinner:  If you want to celebrate Halloween, but not particularly at your wedding, turn to your rehearsal dinner. I mean you could make your rehearsal dinner a full-fledged costume party if you wanted to – the sky is the limit here! And if your family and wedding party have a Halloween bash the night before, it’ll be out of their system before the wedding!
3. White Pumpkins: I mean they are too cute and are the perfect way to bring Halloween to the party in a lighter tone. You can feature them in your centerpieces, add them to your cake table, or even set one at the end of each chair aisle at the ceremony. If you can find a fake white pumpkin that is hollowed out, you can use it to collect your cards or to hold your wedding favors!
4. Themed Photo Booth: Hiring a photo booth service is a great way to allow your guests to dress up, but not really. They can wear all sorts of masks and wigs in front of the camera, but then return to themselves as they rejoin the party. When hiring your photo booth, be sure and ask if they have Halloween themed props, if not, you can find plenty at Party City!
5. Themed Party Favors: This is a super subtle and fun way to tie in Halloween! You can also display them on a cute Halloween table for guests to enjoy when they pick up their favors.

6. Place Cards & Table Numbers: Use little pumpkins or a Halloween trinket to hold your table numbers or place cards. You can even go a step further and name your tables something spooky! Example: Table 1= Ghosts, Table 2= Goblins.

7. Halloween Cupcakes or Cookies: Who doesn’t love a Halloween treat? Order some themed cupcakes or cookies to set out at the reception. It will be a hit, I promise. Check out my friend Leah’s bakery, L’Sappelle Specialty Sweets, I’m sure she can design something scary delicious!

8. “Trick or Treat” Table: Have a table wth a candy bar and little treat bags so guests can create their own candy combo!

9. Signature Drink: Ask your bartenders/alcohol service if they can create a Halloween-themed signature drink! I’m thinking “Bloody Mary” or “Murderous Moscow Mules.” LOL

10. Songs: Have your DJ play 1 or 2 Halloween songs or end the night with a crowd hit like “Thriller”, ” Staying Alive”, or “Werewolves of London.”

You’re ready, “Boo” thang.

Whether you subtly feature 1 or 2 Halloween details or go all-out and dress up like a Zombie Bride, just be sure to have fun with it! It’s YOUR day- you choose how much or how little you want to incorporate the holiday.
