Let’s Get Real Here…
Today I want to talk about a topic that isn’t focused on much in the bridal world…. Comfort. While planning weddings, we focus so much on the perfect dress, show-stopping shoes, stunning jewelry, flawless hair and makeup, the list goes on and on. But what we don’t think about is the fact that brides have to wear this stuff all.day.long. And on the supposed best day of your life! What better way to put a damper on your wedding bliss than to be dealing with uncomfortable undies or shoes that make your feet bleed?! I wouldn’t wish that on anyone! I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to sacrifice bridal comfort for bridal beauty.
Just a few pieces of bridal beauty wisdom:
So, to all of my brides out there, my advice to you is this- when you are picking out your wedding day accessories (and undies) follow these steps:
- First, be sure you are picking your accessories out with plenty of time to spare. You don’t want to realize your earrings irritate your ears two days before the wedding and not have time to find new ones!
- When purchasing your accessories, physically feel and research the components of the material. This sounds weird, but you don’t want to buy a garter made out of cheap lace and have your leg itch the whole night, right? I didn’t spend enough time making my garter purchase and later realized the elastic wasn’t so great and it fell down during our 1st dance! Oops!
- Go for a long, long test drive! Once you’ve purchased your accessories, but sure to wear them for a good stretch of time to see how they do. Do this in a clean, safe environment of course, but make sure you do it! Pick a Saturday or Sunday and wear your accessories around your house all day. You may feel silly, but trust me, your wedding day self will thank you!
- If any of your accessories do wind up irritating your skin or rubbing holes in your feet (don’t panic, you have time, remember?) make a plan to resolve the issue. Either plan to find a replacement, or come up with a remedy to make the accessory more comfortable.
Now here’s the big one:
I want to say this loud and clear- Ladies, if you do not regularly wear high heels, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WEAR THEM ON YOUR WEDDING DAY. For some reason, we all think that in order to feel glamorous we have to wear high heels- this is not true! For some of us, not having to ice our swollen knees or bandage our bleeding feet on our wedding night sounds way more glamorous. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my left knee and absolutely cannot wear heels for more than like 2 hours, so I wore these adorable bridal Keds by Kate Spade. They were sparkly and comfortable and guess what? I danced for 4 straight hours at our reception and I felt like a pain-free, glamorous princess the entire time!
