Where did you get the inspiration for your styled shoot?
Kelyn: When thinking about this shoot, the song Sunday Kind of Love kept coming to mind. I wanted the day to feel easy, laid-back and comfortable – from the decor elements, to the dress, to the way the couple interacted with each other. Pieces of the day felt trendy and modern, while others felt timeless, and created a beautiful blend.
Let’s talk details— how did you go about sourcing vendors, decor, dresses, etc.?
Kelyn: Once I felt comfortable with the direction for the day, it was time to source a team to make it happen. When thinking about vendors, I wanted to work with a team that understood the vision of the day, but also felt empowered to share their own expert direction.
The location, Blanc Studio West, is an all time favorite of mine, and one that has held several special, personal moments for me (my husband and I took both our engagement photos and pregnancy announcement shots here!). For a space that felt natural and really allowed the design elements and love speak, it was an easy choice.
From the dress and florals, to photography and bridal hair and makeup, the team truly blew me away with their ability to capture the vision, make it their own, and create something beautiful. And they were all just so dang fun to work with! The entire day was just a big “I can’t believe we all get to do this together and call it work” moment. My super model friends made the perfect bride and groom as they recently celebrated 4 years of marriage and over 11 years of love – the way they look at each other captures the giddiness of new love and the comfort of significant time together, so having them on the team was a no brainer.
I feel so grateful for everyone who committed to this day and made it such a sweet one.
What were some design elements were you most excited about?
Kelyn: It may seem silly, but the Just Married pizza was so special to me! Capturing shots of the couple lounging in their wedding attire and relishing in that sacred, just married, “we can’t even believe that just happened” feeling was something I looked forward to the whole day.
How did you get started with wedding planning?
Kelyn: I caught the wedding planning bug while I was in college at the University of Georgia. A local wedding planner was looking for wedding day assistants and on a whim, I reached out to her on Facebook. The next day we chatted on the phone, and I was on-site with her for a wedding the next weekend. It was an absolute dream. Come early 2020, I saw another wedding planner that I followed on Instagram share that she was looking for some extra wedding day hands (ahem, Sammy), and I’ve been part of the J&J team ever since. And after all these years, it still feels like an absolute dream.
What kinds of clients/styles resonate most with you?
Kelyn: This might be against the rules to say as a wedding planner, but my dream couple is the one that is passionate about the personal, intimate details, but is more excited just to step into the honor and covenant of marriage. They’ve dreamed about the florals and the dress, but at the end of the day, they’re most interested in having their nearest and dearest together to witness. No matter the style, design or venue a couple has chosen for their big day, my job, and what makes me most excited, is getting to make sure that they’re celebrated and supported, even after the wedding day.
