Holiday Weddings 101

Is your wedding scheduled on or near a holiday? Do you want to tie the holiday into your wedding design but not so much that your guests forget they are at a wedding? If you answered yes to either of those questions, I’ve got ya covered!

Today we are going to talk through 10 ideas that will help you *subtly* tie in holiday festivities without distracting your guests from what’s really important – you and your new hubby/wifey!

And since it’s the week before Christmas, we’ll be covering all of the yule-tide wedding ideas today. Let’s dive in!

Walking in a Winter-Wonderland

December is a very popular wedding month, so some couples have to schedule their big day near Christmas simply due to venue availability. Other couples have dreamt of having a Winter-Wonderland wedding for years and can’t wait to incorporate all the Christmas Cheer.

So whether you are an all-in Christmas bride or want to celebrate in a more subtle manner, our list of Christmas Wedding Ideas is worth a read!

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree

Color Scheme:  The obvious options for an all-out Christmas wedding are definitely red and green, but if you are wanting to go for a subtler feel, just think about the tones of your wedding colors. Think about adding in other Christmas colors through details. Add extra deep greenery, white “frosting”, or holly berries to your bouquet or in your centerpieces. Place Christmas tree greenery on your white table linens with simple gold candles and some frosted pinecones for a “natural” Christmas feel. Sprinkle your venue with white, silver, and blue for a true winter wonderland look, or have your bridesmaids wear deep red to spark the Christmas spirit. Here are some color pallets I came up with:

Themed Rehearsal Dinner:  If you want to celebrate Christmas, but not particularly at your wedding, turn to your rehearsal dinner. I mean you can turn your rehearsal dinner into Santa’s Workshop if you wanted to – the sky is the limit here! And if your family and wedding party have a Christmas bash the night before, it’ll be out of their system before the wedding!

Mistletoe and Poinsettias : Mistletoe is actually a really pretty plant and can be used as a piece of separate decor, or it can be incorporated in your flowers like a base greenery. Hang it in the entryway, stick it in your centerpieces, or feature a bundle on the back of the chairs. Any way you feature it, it will be a subtle holiday touch and will be a fun “activity” for your guests! Poinsettias not only scream Christmas, but their tone of red is absolutely gorgeous. If you are wanting to stay on the subtle side, I would only feature a few poinsettias here and there, but wow, stick one in a deep green centerpiece, and bam, gorgeous. 

Themed Photo Booth: Hiring a photo booth service is a great way to allow your guests to dress up, but not really. They can wear all sorts of Christmas masks and wigs in front of the camera, but then return to themselves as they rejoin the party. When hiring your photo booth, be sure and ask if they have Christmas themed props, if not, you can find plenty at Party City!

Themed Party Favors: This is a super subtle and fun way to tie in Christmas! You can also display them on a cute Christmas table for guests to enjoy when they pick up their favors. 

Place Cards & Table Numbers: Use little rustic bells, snow-frosted pinecones, or other Christmas trinkets to hold your table numbers or place cards. You can even go a step further and give your tables holly jolly nicknames! Example: Table 1= White Christmas, Table 2= O Holy Night, Table 3=Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Christmas Cupcakes or Cookies: Who doesn’t love a Christmas treat? Order some themed cupcakes or cookies to set out at the reception. It will be a hit, I promise. Check out my friend Leah’s bakery, L’Sappelle Specialty Sweets, I’m sure she can design some precious Christmas Cookies for you!

A Hot Cocoa or Cider Bar: Have a table wth hot cocoa or cider and some sweet Christmas toppings. What says Christmas more than cinnamon and chocolate? 

Signature Drink: Ask your bartenders/alcohol service if they can create a Christmas-themed signature drink! I’m thinking a “Mistletoe Margarita” or some sort of “Jingle Juice.” LOL

Songs: Have your DJ or band play 1 or 2 Christmas songs or end the night with a Christmas sing along!

Themed Cake: Your cake is a great place to tie in some creativity. You can easily ask your baker to feature some subtle, elegant Christmas decorations on the top. Check out the one my friend Paige designed:

Whether you subtly feature 1 or 2 Christmas details or go all-out and have Santa visit your reception, just be sure to have fun with it! It’s YOUR day- you choose how much or how little you want to incorporate the holiday.
